In this Fun Friday Session, Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University, joins National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen for a discussion on the Bill of Rights—its rights, its protections and limitations on government—and the process by which it was discussed, debated, and ratified. Students will also explore how the Bill of Rights affects them today. Amar will also answer questions about his work as a writer, professor, and scholar, as well as answer questions from participants.
Akhil Reed Amar’s work has won awards from both the American Bar Association and the Federalist Society, and he has been cited by Supreme Court justices across the spectrum in more than 40 cases. His new book, The Words That Made Us: America's Constitutional Conversation, 1760-1840, will be released May 4. Professor Amar recently launched a new website, akhilamar.com, which features a wide assortment of freely downloadable articles, op-eds, and video links. He also hosts a weekly podcast, America’s Constitution.
