Weekend Workshops
The National Constitution Center hosts Weekend Workshops for educators both at the Center in Philadelphia and across the country. These immersive three-day professional learning sessions are designed to deepen participants’ understanding of constitutional topics while fostering collaboration with peers nationwide. These workshops include engaging discussions with constitutional scholars, insights into the Center’s classroom-ready resources, and practical application sessions. Participants will leave with valuable knowledge and strategies to enhance their teaching of constitutional principles in diverse classroom settings.
During the weekend, participants can expect to:
- Engage with constitutional, legal, and historical scholars on historic and modern questions relating to constitutional topics
- Learn about the Center’s nonpartisan educational resources, such as the Interactive Constitution and the Constitution 101 curriculum
- Explore the Center’s educational framework, which includes historical foundations through storytelling, constitutional thinking skills, and civil dialogue and reflection
- Develop a sense of community and collaboration through quarterly follow-ups after the weekend concludes
Throughout the weekend, participants will work on constructing a classroom-ready resource that connects the content learned to immediate classroom practices. Through follow-up sessions and email check-ins, participants will have the chance to share experiences using the material, gain feedback from their fellow participants, and brainstorm potential adaptations for the future.
Applications for Weekend Workshops in the fall of 2025 are now open from Monday, April 14 to Friday, May 16. This series of Weekend Workshops is only open to applicants in rural, remote, or underserved communities. Others may apply, but preference will be given to applicants who meet this requirement.
Workshops will be held on the following dates:
- Friday, September 19–Sunday, September 21 | Women and the Constitution
- Friday, October 24–Sunday, October 26 | African Americans and the Constitution
- Friday, November 14–Sunday, November 16 | Native Americans and the Constitution, in partnership with Retro Report
During these Weekend Workshops, participants can expect to deepen their knowledge of the Constitution, and how it has been used by women, African Americans, or Native Americans throughout history to enact change. There will be intentional time throughout the weekend dedicated to hearing from scholars, touring the exhibits, and engaging in civil dialogue. Participants will also engage with the Center’s nonpartisan educational materials and collaborate with peers from around the country.
Readings for each weekend will be selected using the Center’s Founders’ Library, a resource developed groups of leading scholars from diverse perspectives.
The Center covers the costs of all travel, lodging, and meals for those selected to participate, but space is limited to no more than 15 educators. After the workshop, participants have the opportunity to schedule professional learning sessions for their school or district during the 2025-2026 school year at no cost to them.
Applications are open from April 14–May 16, with notifications sent no later than June 6. Please send any questions about the workshops or application process to [email protected].
