NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER EXPANDS NATIONAL TEACHER ADVISORY BOARD

Philadelphia, PA (February 12, 2019) – Today, the National Constitution Center announced the expansion of its Teacher Advisory Board to include additional master teachers from around the country. Launched in 2018, the Teacher Advisory Board is responsible for supporting the Center’s education team in development and evaluation of the materials on the Interactive Constitution: Classroom Edition, as well as presenting content created to support students using the National Constitution Center’s free, online Interactive Constitution. The collaboration with these skilled educators helps inform the National Constitution Center’s efforts to better educate young people on the Constitution using high quality, effective classroom materials and instruction. Specific projects include the Center’s forthcoming Interactive Constitution: Classroom Edition, which will feature videos, lesson plans, civil dialogue toolkits, and other multimedia teaching resources that will be distributed to Advanced Placement students across the country thanks to a path-breaking partnership with the College Board.

In 2019, the board expanded to include nearly 20 educators from traditional public, charter, parochial, and independent high schools and middle schools across the United States with approximately 250 years of combined teaching experience. One-third work in Title I schools, and over half teach Advanced Placement classes.

“The National Constitution Center is grateful for the time and expertise that our experienced educators on the Teacher Advisory Board offer the Center,” said Dr. Kerry Sautner, chief learning officer at the National Constitution Center. “Their professional experience and training are key assets in building robust, student-centered, tested materials for all classrooms across the nation.”

Content and lesson plans created by the Teacher Advisory Board are available for free download on the Center’s and its partners’ websites and distributed via the Center’s national teacher network and by National Constitution Center educators and Teacher Advisory Board members at conferences and professional development programs in Philadelphia and across the country.

Educators currently on the National Constitution Center’s Teacher Advisory Board include:
