NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER CELEBRATES PRESIDENTS DAY WEEKEND WITH SPECIAL ON-SITE PROGRAMMING AND FREE ADMISSION ON PRESIDENTS DAY

Admission to the museum on Presidents Day, February 21, will be free

Philadelphia, PA (February 10, 2022) – The National Constitution Center will celebrate Presidents Day Weekend with in-person events and educational resources exploring Article II of the Constitution, the role of the executive branch, and the individuals who have held the office of president throughout American history. Free admission on Presidents Day, Monday, February 21, is made possible thanks to the generosity of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®. The National Constitution Center’s Presidents Day Weekend celebration is presented as part of the Center’s series of freedom and equality themed programming and discounted admission between January and March 2022. All weekend long, Saturday, February 19, through Monday, February 21, visitors to the National Constitution Center can experience interactive shows exploring the executive branch of government, activities highlighting the similarities and differences between America’s commanders in chief, and a story corner and arts and crafts tables. Special events on Presidents Day, Monday, February 21, include an in-person scholar talk on the continuing legacy of forgotten presidents featuring University of North Carolina School of Law’s Michael Gerhardt, a presidential costume contest, and an interactive program featuring presidential reenactors.

Learners of all ages can explore the National Constitution Center’s online resources, including presidential trivia videos and online classes featuring special guest scholars, including historian and author Alexis Coe and host of the award-winning podcast Stuff You Missed in History Class Holly Frey.

Over Presidents Day Weekend, the National Constitution Center will also celebrate Black History Month with a conversation featuring attorney, journalist, and Temple University professor Michael Coard on Black Philadelphia’s early history of voting and protest on Saturday, February 19. Additional programming throughout the weekend includes workshops examining the Emancipation Proclamation, engaging programs exploring the history of slavery in America as well as the stories of key figures, and self-guided tours highlighting unique artifacts and rare documents. Black History Month programming is made possible thanks to the generosity of TD Bank.

Now through Thursday, March 31, visitors can enjoy discounted admission of $10 for adults (usually $14.50) and $7.50 for youth ages 6-18 (usually $11). This promotion is valid online only; tickets must be purchased in advance. Special freedom and equality themed programming through March for educators, students, families, and lifelong learners includes civic holiday celebrations and special programs at the Center, including discounted and free admission days; online classes taught by constitutional experts; virtual tours of the museum; and professional learning opportunities for educators featuring distinguished guest speakers.

The museum will be open outside of normal operating hours on Monday, February 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. General operating hours are currently Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The National Constitution Center is committed to the health and safety of visitors, staff, and volunteers and is following protocols in accordance with local, state, and federal health guidelines.
