As former deputy national security advisor and one of President Barack Obama’s closest aides, Ben Rhodes provides a behind-the-scenes account of some of the most consequential and controversial moments of the Obama presidency as described in his new book The World as It Is. Mark Bowden, best-selling author and national correspondent for The Atlantic, moderates; Vince Stango, executive vice president and COO of the National Constitution Center, provides opening remarks.

- Ben Rhodes is the author of the New York Times bestseller The World As It Is; a contributor for NBC News, MSNBC and Crooked Media; the co-chair of National Security Action; and an advisor to former President Barack Obama. From 2009-2017, Rhodes served as a Deputy National Security Advisor to President Obama. In that capacity, he participated in nearly all of President Obama’s key decisions, and oversaw the President’s national security communications, speechwriting, public diplomacy and global engagement programming.
- Mark Bowden is a journalist and author of 13 books, including Hue 1968, Black Hawk Down, and Killing Pablo. He is a regular contributor to The Atlantic, and a longtime staff writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer. His books have regularly appeared on The New York Times bestseller lists. Black Hawk Down was adapted into an Academy Award-winning motion picture, and three others are currently being adapted into TV series.
- Vince Stango is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the National Constitution Center, and has served the Center in various capacities for nearly two decades. In his current role, Stango oversees the Center’s day-to-day operations and a staff of 150 employees, encompassing development, education, exhibits, finance, human resources, marketing and communications, operations, and visitor experience.
