A Conversation with Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón

The National Constitution Center welcomes Felipe Calderón, former president of Mexico, for an intimate conversation on democracy and constitutionalism in the United States and Mexico, and Mexico's relationship with the United States and role in the global order. Mitchell Orenstein, professor and chair of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, moderates. Vince Stango, executive vice president and COO of the National Constitution Center, provides opening remarks.

Participants

  • Felipe Calderón is a Distinguished Global Leader in Residence at the Perry World House. He served as the president of Mexico from 2006 to 2012. Prior to his presidency, he was Secretary of Energy and director of BANOBRAS. He was also a Congressman, leader of the National Action Party in Congress, and Secretary General and National President of the National Action Party.
     
  • Mitchell Orenstein is professor of Russian and East European Studies at the University Pennsylvania. Orenstein’s research focuses on the political economy of transition in Central and Eastern Europe, pension privatization worldwide, the role of ideas in economic policy reform, and Russia’s hybrid war on the West. Among other works on political economy and foreign policy, he is the author of three prize-winning books.
     
  • Vince Stango is the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the National Constitution Center, and has served the Center in various capacities for nearly two decades. In his current role, Stango oversees the Center’s day-to-day operations and a staff of 150 employees, encompassing development, education, exhibits, finance, human resources, marketing and communications, operations, and visitor experience.
