BACKGROUND

The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”

POSITION SUMMARY

The Email Marketing Specialist will be responsible for all email efforts under the supervision of the Director of Marketing. This individual will own the end-to-end email process, including copywriting, design and formatting in platform, list building and segmentation, QA and testing, deployment, and reporting on performance. They will support the development of a strategy around email communications and targeted email campaigns under the Director of Marketing and be responsible for executing that strategy, as well as providing assistance to other departments in email best practices and overall database management.

This role will also have a unique opportunity to support the National Constitution Center in a customer relationship management migration process in 2026. As part of this work, this individual will play a critical part in shaping our customer experience, brand communication, and overall digital marketing strategy.

This position is based in Philadelphia with flexible remote work opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement an email content calendar for all of the strategic priorities of the organization, which includes but is not limited to; new product offerings, special events, partnership announcements, and campaigns
  • Maintain regular NCC weekly and monthly newsletters
  • Understand the NCC’s various audiences and segment lists based on behavior, demographics, and email performance data to ensure personalized and relevant messaging that is driving actions or deepening engagement
  • Oversee the email contact list management, including managing the use of email collection forms on NCC’s website or in-person uses to ensure consistent, legal, and optimized contact data flow into the CRM in partnership with the NCC’s Database Manager.
  • Lead the uploading of new contact lists from spreadsheets or other documentation into CRM
  • Support the migration of NCC’s email database from Constant Contact into Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and continue to oversee list management within the NCC’s CRM to ensure that lists are accurate and segmentation is applied
  • Implement automated email workflows (e.g., welcome series, re-engagement, event triggers)
  • Facilitate an internal email request system, working in partnership with cross-functional teams to prioritize and meet needs, ensuring all email requests are scheduled, written, tested, approved, and delivered on time
  • Support the Education team’s email needs, including a weekly newsletter and targeted emails for professional development and new resources in partnership with the Senior Director, Educational Product Marketing
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, content, product, and development teams to create cohesive messaging and optimized customer journeys
  • Develop and run A/B tests on subject lines, content, calls to action, and send times
  • Monitor campaign metrics (open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates, unsubscribe rates, etc.) and generate actionable insights
  • Maintain and continuously improve email hygiene and list quality

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field required
  • Excellent writing and editing skills required
  • 5-6 years of experience in email marketing or CRM, preferably for a large organization or digital-first environment
  • Proficiency in with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, MailChimp, HubSpot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud) required
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CCPA)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines required
  • Experience with HTML/CSS for email formatting preferred
  • Knowledge of digital production tools such as Photoshop preferred
  • Cross-channel experience (social media, digital advertising, video, etc.)
  • Familiarity with web design, web analytics, and content management systems preferred (e.g. Google Analytics, UTM tracking)
