Jennifer G. Newstead

Jennifer G. Newstead is chief legal officer at Meta, formerly Facebook, overseeing all global legal and corporate governance matters on behalf of the company. Prior to joining Meta in 2019, Ms. Newstead served as the Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State, where she oversaw all domestic and international legal matters on behalf of the Department. Earlier in her career, Ms. Newstead was a partner in the Litigation department of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and served in various senior government positions, including as General Counsel of OMB, as a Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Justice, and as an Associate White House Counsel.

Ms. Newstead graduated from Harvard University in 1991 and received her Juris Doctor in 1994 from Yale Law School, where she was Managing Editor of the Yale Law Journal. She clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
