Governor Rendell is the former Governor of Pennsylvania and a current partner at Ballard Spahr, where he devotes his practice to public-private partnerships and housing, with an emphasis on infrastructure.
In 2003, Governor Rendell was elected governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he served two terms. From 2008 to 2009, Governor Rendell was chair of the National Governors Association. He served as general chair of the Democratic National Committee during the 2000 presidential election. Governor Rendell, along with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, founded Building America’s Future, a national infrastructure-investment coalition.
He also served two-terms as mayor of Philadelphia from 1992 to 2000. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Governor Rendell joined the Philadelphia district attorney’s office upon completing law school, rising to Chief of Homicide in 1972. He was also elected as district attorney for two terms.
Governor Rendell has served on numerous nonprofit boards including Building America’s Future and is Vice Chairman of the National Constitution Center’s Board of Trustees.
Governor Rendell received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1965 and a J.D. from the Villanova University School of Law in 1968.
