Discussing his book American Struggle: Democracy, Dissent, and the Pursuit of a More Perfect Union

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and National Constitution Center Semiquincentennial Scholar Jon Meacham joins to discuss his book American Struggle: Democracy, Dissent, and the Pursuit of a More Perfect Union. The book brings together pivotal speeches, letters, and essays from across American history to illuminate the enduring tensions that shape our democracy. Meacham will engage participants in reflection on the questions and challenges that faced America and continue to inform our national legacy. Vince Stango, interim president and chief executive officer at the National Constitution Center, moderates.

This is the first event in the Center’s new National Constitution Center Book Club series, inviting Americans of all ages into a shared reading experience that encourages thoughtful conversation and exploration of our nation’s founding documents, key historical texts, and the ideals that bind us together. Reading together sparks curiosity, creates a common foundation for inquiry, and deepens civic and constitutional knowledge. The series will include virtual and in-person programs at the Center in Philadelphia.

We invite you to be part of the conversation. Submit your questions in advance to [email protected] and help guide our discussion.
