Participating teachers will begin the workshop with an overview of the role federalism has played in American history, from the founding era to today, using the Center's nonpartisan educational framework. Participants will then do a deep dive on stories from Nebraska's history highlighting the state’s role as a laborato
A full overview of resources from the Center and NSHS will be made available, with participants leaving the workshop with a deeper understanding of Nebraska history and the balance of power between the state and national governments, along with practical strategies for their students to thoughtfully engage with this topic.
All participating teachers will receive a $100 stipend. Participants traveling more than 50 miles will be eligible for an additional $50 travel stipend. All participants will receive a light breakfast and boxed lunches (dietary restrictions will be accommodated).
During the workshop you will:
- Deepen their constitutional knowledge by exploring the importance of federalism from the founding through today.
- Engage with primary sources and constitutional questions that help students develop constitutional thinking skills and consider diverse perspectives.
- Hear stories from Nebraska’s history highlighting the state’s role as a laboratory of democracy during a guided tour of NSHS’s exhibits and through NSHS resources sharing.
- Leave with trusted, nonpartisan NCC resources and instructional strategies ready to use in the classroom.
