National Constitution Center Celebrates Women’s History Month 2019

Throughout March, the National Constitution Center will host a variety of special programs in honor of Women’s History Month.

NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER CELEBRATES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Enjoy discounted admission of $10 for adults/$7.50 for youth through March 31, 2019

Philadelphia, PA (February 28, 2019) – Throughout March, the National Constitution Center will host a variety of special programs in honor of Women’s History Month. In the museum’s main exhibit, The Story of We the People, visitors can discover defining moments in women’s history, and then test their knowledge at the Center’s giant game board activity. Visitors can also participate in a fun and educational music video workshop that looks at the Women’s Suffrage Movement, inspired by the music of Lady Gaga. Artifact highlights include a collection of items from the movement for women’s suffrage and the effort to pass an Equal Rights Amendment. 

The National Constitution Center will also host one of its popular Girl Scout Days on Saturday, March 9. Girl Scouts can participate in fun and engaging programs designed to meet requirements for their Citizen Legacy Badge.

Special Event
Scout Day: Girl Scouts of the USA
8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday, March 9
Scouts $14, Adults $12, one free chaperon for every 10 scouts
Girl Scouts from Brownies to Seniors will participate in programs and workshops that explore the ins and outs of our government, elections, and jury system, all designed to meet requirements for their Citizen Legacy Badge. Girls of all ages will also have the opportunity to explore women’s history with trivia games and a one-of-a-kind music video workshop. During these special programs, scouts will journey back in time to learn about our nation’s greatest women heroes, from suffragists to Supreme Court justices. All scouts will receive a National Constitution Center Scout Day Fun Patch.

Decoding the Lyrics: “Bad Romance: Women’s Suffrage”
Main Exhibit
History gets a hip twist in this interactive show. Visitors can watch Soomo Publishing’s historical, humorous take on Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” music video—redone to tell the story of the women’s suffrage movement. Then visitors will take a closer look at the lyrics and references in the video to learn more about the passage of the 19th Amendment.

Women’s History Self-Guided Tour
Main Exhibit
Visitors can pick up a flier at the Information Desk to take a self-guided museum tour highlighting important moments in women’s history, featuring:

  • One-of-a-kind artifacts that give a glimpse into the daily lives of the 18th-century women who once called the museum’s block home.
  • World War II-era artifacts, including a U.S. Women’s Army Corps “Hobby Hat,” that highlights the role women played in the war effort.
  • A plate that reads “Votes for Women” alongside other women’s suffrage movement highlights.
  • Equal Rights Amendment button from the 1970s.
  • The American National Tree, highlighting groundbreaking women such as Alice Paul, Betty Ford, and Dr. Mary E. Walker (the only American woman to be awarded the Medal of Honor).

As part of the Center’s interactive daily programming in March, visitors can test their knowledge of women’s history.

Interactive Constitution
The National Constitution Center’s Interactive Constitution explores the 19th Amendment, which ensured that the right to vote could not be denied on the basis of sex, with in-depth essays written by top scholars Nancy Gertner and Gail Heriot.

 

Admission during Women’s History Month includes access to the National Constitution Center’s interactive main exhibit, The Story of We the People; the signature multimedia, theatrical performance of Freedom Rising presented in the Sidney Kimmel Theater; and the iconic Signers’ Hall, featuring 42 life-size, bronze statues of the Founding Fathers.

Visitors also have access to the Center’s feature exhibits, including American Treasures: Documenting the Nation’s Founding, an intimate look at the rarest early drafts of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; Constituting Liberty: From the Declaration to the Bill of Rights, highlighting the three most important documents in American history; and the Center’s Hamilton: The Constitutional Clashes That Shaped a Nation exhibit, which highlights the competing ideas of Alexander Hamilton and his legendary rivals.

Through March 31, 2019, visitors can enjoy discounted admission with the National Constitution Center’s Winter Warm Up sale. Admission prices will be discounted to $10 for adults (usually $14.50) and $7.50 for youth ages 6-18 (usually $11). This promotion is valid online only; tickets must be purchased in advance.
