2020 Liberty Medal Post-Ceremony Conversation

Join National Constitution Center President and CEO Jeffrey Rosen for a conversation presented in conjuction with the 2020 Liberty Medal ceremony honoring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for her efforts to advance liberty and equality for all. Kelsi Corkran and Amanda Tyler explore the Justice’s constitutional legacy, including her trailblazing work as an associate justice and her legacy as cultural and constitutional icon who continues to inspire generations of Americans today.

This program is presented as part of the Center’s yearlong initiative, Women and the Constitution, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.

Participants

  • Kelsi Brown Corkran heads the firm's Supreme Court practice at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. A former law clerk to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge David Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Corkran has served as lead counsel in dozens of federal and state court appeals. She has presented argument before the U.S. Supreme Court and 11 of the 13 U.S. Courts of Appeals, including the en banc Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining Orrick, Corkran served as the Civil Appellate Staff at the U.S. Department of Justice and worked in the Communications Office of the White House’s Executive Office of the President, where she assisted with judicial nominations, including the confirmation hearings of Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

  • Amanda Tyler is the Shannon Cecil Turner Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. She was previously a member of the faculty of the George Washington University Law School and has been a visiting professor at Harvard Law School, New York University School of Law, and the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to entering academia, Tyler served as a law clerk to the Honorable Guido Calabresi at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Supreme Court of the United States. She also practiced as an associate with the law firm of Sidley & Austin in Washington, D.C. Her book, Habeas Corpus in Wartime: From the Tower of London to Guantanamo Bay,was published in 2017

  • Jeffrey Rosen is the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating the public about the U.S. Constitution. Rosen is also professor of law at The George Washington University Law School and a contributing editor of The Atlantic.
