Principles of the American Revolution Summer Teacher Institute

Date
Sunday, July 17 - Friday, July 22
Time
4:38 pm - 4:38 pm

Join teachers from across the country and engage with ideologically diverse constitutional scholars during a weeklong teacher institute on the principles of the American Revolution with the National Constitution Center.

During the institute, educators work will:

  • hear from constitutional scholars to deepen their understanding of founding principles of the American Revolution—including popular sovereignty, natural rights, and rule of law.
  • tour museum exhibit spaces, guided by museum educators and members of the Center’s education department, to experience stories relating to the founding principles and their connections to the American Revolution and the Constitution throughout history.
  • work with teacher facilitators and the Center’s education team to learn about educational resources like the Interactive Constitution, live constitutional classes, and online learning material.
  • discover and develop innovative, nonpartisan ways to make the content relevant to their students.
  • collaborate with peers and teacher facilitators to connect the content from each day to their own classroom practices and develop classroom-ready resources.

This in-person institute is open to educators working with grades 5 – 12 at public, charter, independent, parochial, and other schools. The institute is free to attend, but a successful application is required. Funding is available to cover a significant portion of travel and lodging expenses. Applications are due no later than Friday, February 25, 2022. Notification regarding application status will be sent by Friday, March 25, 2022.
