Constitution Center CEO gets mention during Gorsuch’s hearing

Among Senate Judiciary chair Chuck Grassley’s remarks on Tuesday morning at Neil Gorsuch’s nomination hearing was a brief mention of National Constitution Center president and CEO Jeffrey Rosen.

Grassley opened what was expected to be a 10-hour questioning session of questions for Gorsuch – with answers from the federal judge under consideration from the Supreme Court – with a recount of people who had publicly commented on Gorsuch’s qualifications as a judicial independent.

Grassley at first mentioned former Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal and former Senator Ken Salazar, both of whom praised Gorsuch in the past, despite their connections to the Obama administration.

Then the Senator spoke about Rosen, who has written at length about the Court and its history for many publications.

“Legal commentator Jeffery Rosen similar[ly] praised you for your independence,” Grassley remarked, as he concluded his remarks.

Recently, Rosen has written several stories about Gorsuch for The Atlantic about the nominee.

On Monday, Rosen examined the debate about Gorsuch’s legal philosophy and arguments about his favoring big business over small business and capital over labor.

And in February, Rosen examined Gorsuch’s record as a judge who favors Jeffersonian principles.
