In November 1920, millions of women voted for the first time under the 19th Amendment. But for millions of other women, the fight was not over; women of color and the poor remained disenfranchised through various laws and other discriminatory methods. Women continued to face challenges through gender discrimination and economic concerns. As white leaders debated whether to unify around another cause, they left behind women of color, who had to fight for their right to vote alone.
