George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation on Display

A proclamation signed by George Washington on October 3, 1789, establishing the first federal Thanksgiving Day, will be on display at the museum for one day only, before being sold at auction at Christie’s New York.

This important piece of American history is expected to fetch between $8 and $12 million.
