Smart conversation from the National Constitution Center

What does "A more perfect union" mean to you?

January 20, 2011 by Jenna Winterle Kehres

This past Monday was Martin Luther King Day of Service, and every year the National Constitution Center is proud to take part in celebrating one of our country’s greatest citizens and continuing Dr. King’s legacy of service in our community. Our staffers volunteered at different charitable organizations around the city, in addition to hosting our own service project here at the Center.

On August 28, 1963, Dr. King addressed the crowd at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. In his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, King shared his vision for a better America—for a “more perfect union.” With his inspiring words on everyone’s mind, we took the opportunity to ask people: What does a “more perfect union” look like to you? Here are some responses.
