At the Table
is an international exchange program that connects high school students in Philadelphia and Riga. The program, undertaken by the National Constitution Center in collaboration with the National History Museum of Latvia, will culminate in two service projects and a collaborative documentary film about civic engagement. Two weeks ago, we introduced our first 7 students, in this post, the next 7 student-written bios help introduce the participants from Lizums Secondary School. My name is Ernests Stūriška. I am 16 years old. Our school is inside a castle that was once property of Baron von Wolf. I really enjoy listening to music, playing football. I also enjoy painting. I have graduated an art school and painted a wall painting on our history class wall. I have also won art competitions in my country. I think that this project will be interesting because we will meet people from different countries, get to know different cultures, and learn about our history and American culture. At the moment I haven’t planned anything for my future, but I think that I want to become a doctor.

My name is Paula Pajate. I'm 17 years old.

I'm communicative and open for new challenges.

I like history, traveling and finding new friends. In the future I want to be a person who does something good.

I want to work on charity projects in the future.

My name is Madara Krevica. I am 17 years old. I live in a family of three children in Lizums parish, in east of capital Riga. I enjoy playing volleyball and skiing. I like to draw very much. Also, I like to go to different public events. I think that the most important thing in this project is the process, when we are going to make interviews, and when we have “Sunday suppers.” Also interesting is getting to know people better. It will be a new experience for me. For the future I think I will work with people too. I would like to be a doctor. In the future I hope to be a socially active person.

My name is Una Cimdiņa and I am 17 years old. In school I like theatre very much.

I like to spend time with my friends at parties.

In this project I like that we can communicate with other people from Latvia and from USA.

I am not yet decided what to do in future.

My name is Ieva Kalnina, I am 16 years old.

I like sports and theatre. The thing that excites me about the “At the Table” project is visiting the USA and getting to know people from USA.

My plan is to study at RTU (Riga Technical University), I hope to be an architect in the future.

My name is Kintija Petersone and I am 16 years old. I like theatre and playing basketball, as well as participating in different events and I like to sing also. I think this project is very interesting because someone from our group will visit USA.

This is my dream, as well as to improve knowledge of history and interesting facts about Latvia and USA.  I’m also interested in meeting and getting to know new people. At this time I don’t have plans for future, but I’m thinking about the fashion industry.

My name is Maris Kaufelds and I am 17 years old. I like to play mini football. I go to the dances and some out-of-school activities. Sometimes I play computer games. My mom has a farmstead. There is a lot of space to play sports. I help my mom and dad to feed and herd all animals.
