Explore a specific constitutional topic during your visit! Our themed packages will engage and entertain your school group using exhibits, artifacts, and innovative, hands-on activities aligned with national and state standards.

Themed packages are available only for student/youth groups.

Themed packages last two to three hours and include:

  • An interactive, high-energy activity about a constitutional topic (see below for details)
  • A hands-on workshop or guided tour of our exhibitions
  • Admission to our main exhibition, which includes Freedom Rising, The Story of We the People, and Signers’ Hall

Being an Active Citizen

Young students are empowered by this interactive program, which highlights ways they can be active citizens at home, in school, in their community, and throughout their lives. They will learn about children throughout history who stood up for freedom and changed the country.

Bill of Rights

Who wants to be a “Bill-ionaire?” Students learn about the Bill of Rights and its creation during this fast-paced game show. Each participant buzzes in his or her answer using electronic voting devices; then our dynamic educational “host” reveals the correct responses and the students’ voting results.

Breaking Barriers

Students embark on a journey through history as they learn about the lives and legacies of African Americans who broke the color barrier in education, government, entertainment, and other fields. Through storytelling and costumes, extraordinary citizens such as Thurgood Marshall, Bessie Coleman, and Jackie Robinson come to life and inspire future generations of American citizens.

Decoding the Document: The Emancipation Proclamation

Students can take a closer look at the Center’s rare printing of the Emancipation Proclamation to learn about its fascinating history, its role in the Civil War, and the background of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments.

Destination White House: Presidential Elections

During this action-packed program, your group will explore the ins and outs of a presidential campaign, from building a platform and naming a candidate to creating unforgettable campaign ads. Finally, students elect a classmate to be the next commander in chief.

Fourth of July

From parades to protests, cannons to flag waving, patriotic songs to fiery demonstrations, this show takes an in-depth look at this exciting national holiday from the early years of America’s independence to the present day. Students read speeches by Americans who fought for freedom and explore how the holiday has long symbolized the struggle for liberty, equality, and citizenship. The show ends with a bang from our Cannon of Independence.

Free to Be You

This fast-paced game show explores the First Amendment and the freedoms it protects. As students compete to answer questions, they learn about Americans who stood up for their First Amendment rights and changed our country in the process. Plus, students can get creative by acting out one of the freedoms and taking a stand for an issue they believe in.

Growing Up, American Style

Students participate in a costume “runway show” featuring traditional dress from historical periods and discover what life was like during those times—including how often kids bathed, how they spent their days, and what freedoms they had.

History Detectives Workshop: Artifacts from the 1800s and 1900s

Students become history detectives as they use the Center’s fascinating artifacts and documents as primary sources to explore the past and investigate what life was life in America during the 1800s and 1900s. Among the historic objects are a pin from the 1887 Constitutional Centennial celebration in Philadelphia, ice tongs from the mid-19th century, an Imperial Brass iron circa 1911, and a voting booth from the 1940 presidential election.

History of Weather in Partnership with FOX 29

Join us for an exciting program featuring a FOX News meteorologist and the National Constitution Center’s education staff. Explore the impact of weather in major events in American history, such as the Revolutionary War, D-Day, and the Chicago Heat Wave of 1995.

Pass the Citizenship Test

Do your students know what it takes to become an American citizen? During this fun-filled and enlightening activity, students will learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and gain insight into our country and our freedoms.

Grades 4 – 8: The Wicked Witch and the Stolen Property Lawsuit

Grades 9 – 12: The Three Little Pigs and the Case of Double Homicide

In this popular program about our judicial system, courts, and the rule of law, students act as judge and jury in mock trials based on well-known fairy tales. Students make opening and closing arguments, question witnesses, and provide a verdict.

From the Revolutionary War to the present day, women have played a major role in shaping American society. Students take part in a “Guess Who”-style trivia game, read famous speeches aloud, dress up like Dolley Madison and Deborah Sampson, and get to know other women who changed the course of American history.
