In Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court requires that criminal suspects be informed of their rights before being questioned by police. The Miranda ruling protects the accused, ensuring that suspects will know their rights. Some fear it’s a loophole that can let criminals go free: if the warning is not given properly, a defendant's confession can be thrown out.
