MAY 25 - SEPTEMBER 3, 2007

From the Hindenburg explosion and Pope John Paul II’s first visit to the United States, to the Kennedy assassination and Apollo 8, landmark moments in history will forever remain in the hearts and minds of Americans.  This summer, from May 25, 2007 through September 3, 2007, the National Constitution Center will host an exhibition that presents first-hand accounts of such watershed events in American history, Eyewitness: American Originals from the National ArchivesThis exhibition was created by the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, DC, and the Foundation for the National Archives.  The national tour of Eyewitness is sponsored by The Boeing Company.  CBS 3 Eyewitness News is the official media partner for the Constitution Center’s showing of the Eyewitness exhibit.

Through letters, diaries, photographs, and audio and film recordings from the National Archives and its Presidential libraries, visitors to the Eyewitness exhibition will gain new and unique insights into well-known occurrences.  Gripping and emotional, the testimonies capture the exuberance, grief, joy, panic, or chaos that characterized the events described.  History books explain the slaves’ fight for freedom or the liberation of concentration camps at the end of World War II, but the power of the original accounts written or recorded by players in these dramas enable visitors to be transported back in time to these events, almost as if they are experiencing them firsthand.
