Independence Day Celebration
Sunday, July 4, 2010
9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; check the visitor guide upon arrival for daily show times and locations
Event Admission: FREE with museum admission

 

The Center celebrates Independence Day with plenty of patriotic fanfare and fun!  Visitors will enjoy Revolutionary War re-enactments, historical games, interactive workshops, craft activities, face painters and more! In conjunction with the Center’s Ancient Rome & America exhibition, visitors can also explore Rome’s influence on the Founding Fathers.

Independence Day Show
10:00 a.m.; 12 noon; 2:00 p.m.; 4:00 p.m.
From protests to cannons, flag waving to parades, this interactive demonstration takes an in depth look at this exciting celebration by exploring it over time from the very first words of independence to present day.

Revolutionary War Re-enactment
The 2nd and 6th Pennsylvania Regiment swill set up camp on the Center’s front lawn, complete with an infantry unit, rifle unit, surgical group, and more.  The Regiments will show visitors what life was like for soldiers during the Revolutionary War and allow them to experience colonial life through living history demonstrations. 
Children's Musket Drills: 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m.
Drill Demonstrations: 11:00 a.m. & 12:30 p.m.
Surgeon's Presentations: 11:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.

July 4th Craft Activities
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Visitors to the Center can get into the 4th of July spirit by creating take-home patriotic crafts including American flags, confetti launchers, star wands, and Uncle Sam hats. 

Demonstrations
Printing: 10:15 a.m. & 3:15 p.m.
Paper making: 11:15 a.m. & 4:15 p.m.
Candle making: 12:15 p.m.
Butter making: 2:15 p.m.

Growing Up, American Style
10:30 a.m.; 12:30 p.m.; 2:30 p.m.
During this interactive show, children will learn what it was like growing up in the United States during different time periods, including how children dressed throughout the ages and what responsibilities they had in the household.  Participants will also have the chance to dress in costume for a special runway show depicting children of various historical eras. 

Historic Games
3:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.
Children and their families can participate in a variety of games from the Revolutionary period, including sack races, an egg toss, three-legged races, and more!  Visitors can also participate in dance lessons to learn the most popular moves from different periods in American history.

Star Spangled Banner Show
11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.; 3:00 p.m.

Flag Etiquette and Raising Ceremony
11:30 a.m.; 1:30 p.m.; 3:30 p.m.
