The Peter Jennings Project is not specifically seeking applicants who cover the law or the courts as part of their regular beat, nor is it expected that your experience as a Fellow would lead to your adopting that beat. Instead, we are simply seeking journalists who want to learn more about the U.S. Constitution and the way it shapes American society. We anticipate that by developing a greater awareness of the constitutional dimension to so many issues in American life, our Fellows will produce work that will reflect this new insight. To that end, we would like to know in what ways you presently see the Constitution having an impact on your community, or, in the case of international applicants, how constitutional values—freedom, equality, the rule of law—are addressed in the work you do? As you think about this question, try to put aside the professional issues associated with Freedom of the Press.

In 250 words or less, tell us why you want to be a Jennings Fellow. Why should we accept you?

The Peter Jennings Project for Journalists and the Constitution is dedicated to assembling a body of work relating directly or indirectly to the Fellows' experience at our program. We therefore require confirmation from your supervisor that he or she will commit to allowing you to do some work in the next year relating to constitutional issues. Please attach a brief statement from your supervisor expressing that commitment and describing why he or she feels this fellowship would benefit the work you do.

If you are a freelance journalist, or do not have a direct supervisor, please attach a letter of recommendation from an editor, producer, or manager at one of your regular outlets.
