Chris O’Connell is a field producer based in New York City for the CBS News program 48 Hours Mystery. Since starting out as a night-cops reporter for Chicago-area Daily Herald in 1999, he has covered crime and criminal trials for print, web and television in dozens of states over the past decade. His writing has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Life, San Francisco Chronicle and Most recently for 48 Hours, he co-produced “Kidnapped” – an exclusive look at the 4-year ordeal of kidnapping victim Shawn Hornbeck, and the work of law enforcement to rescue him and fellow victim Ben Ownsby. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Journalism.
