Jordy Freed is an 11th grade National Honors Society student at Cheltenham High School (CHS). With a class rank of 13 of 417 students and a 3.88 GPA, he is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Cheltonian (the High School newspaper), and the Vice President of the CHS marching Band. He is also a professional musician. He is three time Cheltenham Township Talent Search winner and Scholarship Student in the Rohm and Hass sponsored Settlement Music School Jazz Ensemble.
Although Jordy is primarily a jazz saxophonist, he also performs on clarinet as well. Jordy is Principal Clarinetist of the CHS Symphonic Band and recently made 2nd Clarinet in the All BucksMont County Band. On Saxophone, he recently performed his Classical repertoire for the world renowned Saxophonist Branford Marsalis at the The Kimmel Center for the Philadelphia Orchestra Concert at Verizon Hall. Jordy has performed as a goodwill ambassador with the Settlement Music School Classical Saxophone Quartet for Children's Hospital and spends many of his Sundays performing as part of a community service projects at Senior Assisted Nursing Homes throughout the Delaware Valley.
He is the band leader of the Jordy Freed Blue Note Jazz Quintet and most recently released his 2nd Jazz CD that is currently available for purchase. During the summer of 2005 and 2006, Jordy earned a scholarship at the Kimmel Center under the leadership of Marc Johnson in the Kimmel Center Jazz Ensemble and won a spot with the Kimmel Center Jazz Ensemble for the 2005 -2006 season. In addition, Jordy is a private music instructor on Saxophones and Clarinet to middle school students. Jordy is also in the CHS High School Marching Band, Jazz Band and Stage Bands and has performed as part of the Pit Orchestra in the musical productions of "Aida,” “Working,” and most recently “Beauty and the Beast,” that all appeared in May of 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively.
