Don’t miss your chance to experience the most comprehensive exhibition of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs ever assembled, arriving in Philadelphia after drawing millions of visitors on its worldwide tour. Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs illuminates the enduring power of the still image, the importance of First Amendment freedoms, and the key role of the press in documenting the stories of our time. Typically published on the front pages of American newspapers, these iconic images have influenced our thinking, inspired civic action, and traced the triumphs and tragedies of “We the People.”

The Pulitzer Prize is the ultimate symbol of excellence in photojournalism. Capture the Moment is updated annually and includes every winner since the Pulitzer board began awarding the photography prize in 1942. Bearing witness to moments of jubilation, heroism, and compassion, as well as the harsh realities of war, racism, and poverty, the 153 images on display carry human emotions across barriers of language, time, and place. The Pulitzer-winning photographs include:

• U.S. Marines raising an American flag on Iwo Jima, photographed by Joe Rosenthal
• Babe Ruth watching his number being retired at Yankee Stadium, photographed by Nathaniel Fein

This traveling exhibition was developed by the Newseum in association with Business of Entertainment, Inc., New York, Cyma Rubin, curator. The Newseum, an interactive museum of news, is located in Washington, D.C.
