Flag Day

Flag Day
Thursday, June 14, 2012, 8:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Event Admission: FREE with museum admission

Join us on Independence Mall as we celebrate two important Birthdays: the United States Army (which turns 237 years old this year), and the star-spangled flag our troops serve under, (which is turning 235)! The day kicks off as we raise the current US Flag in front of the National Constitution Center. Then, active members of the US Army, as well as historic military interpreters parade down Independence Mall for a special ceremony in front of Independence Hall with a 13 Star Flag Raising, speakers from the National Constitution Center, the National Park Service, and an appearance from the Army’s first Commander-in-Chief, President George Washington! This special ceremony concludes with Future Soldiers taking their oath to preserve, protect and defend our Constitution!

Festivities honoring both the Flag and the Military continue throughout the day, with tents and activities along Independence Mall, as well as a full line up of programs at the Center!
