Colonial Field Days at the National Constitution Center this summer!

July 9-11; 16-18; 23-25; and July 30-August 4, September 4-7, and October 1-4 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The National Constitution Center invites visitors to experience “Colonial Field Days,” new programming that encourages visitors to step back in time and experience the 18th Century Founding Era. Visitors can try their hands at Colonial games, dress up in 18th Century fashions and even “enlist” in the Continental Army.

Colonial Field Days will take place at the Center, July 9-11; 16-18; 23-25; and July 30-August 4, September 4-7, and October 1-4.   

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Lawn Activities

Flag Raising and Lowering Ceremony
9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Join the museum’s staff each morning for a Flag Raising Ceremony, and then again in     the evening as they reverently lower it.

Musters
11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Become a recruit of the Continental Army.  Supplied with wooden muskets, recruits will follow the lead of two soldiers who drill the participants in musket etiquette and marching orders of the Revolutionary Era.  

Giant Flag Folding
12:30 p.m.
Help the museum’s staff fold a giant 20x30 foot American flag on the front lawn.

Dress-up and Photo Op
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
A great photo-op for the whole family, visitors can dress in replicas of traditional-style attire from the Colonial learn about what home, school, and work were like during the Colonial period.  

Colonial Games
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Try your hand at Hoop-and-Stick, Graces, Nine Pin, and other popular games played by children during the Revolutionary period on the museum’s front lawn.

Craft and Activity Tables
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Create some historical flare during your visit with colonial crafts and activities.

Grand Hall Lobby Activities

Independence Day Show
10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Dive into the early days of American Independence, from parades to protests, cannons to flag waving, and explosive words to fiery demonstrations. This show takes an in-depth look at this exciting celebration of freedom.

Flag Etiquette Workshops
11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Discover the history and symbolism of the American flag and learn about the proper ways to treat it.

The National Constitution Center is participating in the new Historic Philadelphia Pass, a pass that includes discounts to participating attractions on select dates.

The pass is free, and visitors can pick it up at the National Constitution Center Box Office or any of the 19 participating attractions.

On the following dates, visitors can receive generous discounts and special offers to the National Constitution Center and other participating attractions:

  •     October 1 – 4
