BACKGROUND

The National Constitution Center, located on Philadelphia's Independence Mall, is the first museum in the world dedicated to honoring and explaining the U.S. Constitution through more than 100 interactive and multi-media exhibits, artifacts and film.  The Center also houses the Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach, which serves as a hub for national constitutional education, debates, teacher resources and as a home for visiting scholars and experts.

POSITION SUMMARY

This internship is designed to serve as an educational internship in the procedures, skills, and knowledge necessary to run a professional theatre program in a museum setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Intern will work as the assistant to the Theatre Programs Producer in the areas of casting, contract development, talent scheduling, budgeting, rehearsals, program development, research, grant process and application, and maintenance, as well as explorations in other areas of museum studies that are of interest within the Education and Public Programs Department. 

Intern’s primary responsibilities will revolve around the maintenance and support of the Center’s primary theatre program Freedom Rising, but will also include assisting in the development and implementation of new programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Intern should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and some previous experience in theatre or the performing arts (not exclusive to performance or management experience). 

This is an excellent opportunity for junior – senior Undergraduate or Graduate students majoring in the performing arts and arts management.  Internship requires 1 – 2 days of work per week between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm, Sunday through Monday, with a minimum of 12 hours per week, and a maximum of 24 hours per week.  Occasionally, intern may be requested to attend or assist in day-of coordination for on-site theater programs outside of regular hours.  This will be on a case-by-case need and will not unduly increase intern’s weekly hours.
